Havasupai Tribe Announces Public Access to Havasu Falls for the First Time Since March 2020

Havasu Falls, an awe-inducing natural phenomenon that is a destination for many outdoor enthusiasts, is reopening to the public in 2023. Havasu Falls is located on the Havasupai Tribe Reservation and visitation is governed by the tribe.

In March of 2020, the tribe closed public access to the falls due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. In a December 23, 2022 communication, the tribe announced that the area will be officially reopened to visitors starting February 1, 2023. The announcement states that the opening follows a number of setbacks beyond the pandemic, including issues with a third-party tourism management company and a flood that occurred in October of 2022. At first only current permit holders will be able to visit the falls. In an official communication, the Havasupai Tribe said “This is truly a great time to visit and please know that we are eager to to welcome tourists back to our beautiful Reservation.”
