How to Reduce Plastic Waste at Sporting Events

Plastic is detrimental to ecosystems along every point of its life cycle. Realizing that sporting events often contribute to these deleterious environmental impacts, the International Olympic Committee teamed up with UN Environment Programme with input from World Sailing to offer a guide that breaks down how to reduce plastic waste at sporting events.

“Plastic Game Plan for Sport” helps sporting event organizers visualize the immense impact of single use plastic on the planet and how sporting events specifically contribute to these detriments. The guide also offers tangible tips on how to create a plan to refuse, reduce, reuse, replace and recycle plastic to help decrease negative environmental impact and host more sustainable, Earth friendly events.
