On September 2, 2023, officials at Perisher Ski Resort in Australia’s Kosciuszko National Park announced that they will be halting operations in two areas, Blue Cow and Guthega, on September 3 due to unfavorable weather conditions.

“The low snowfall, warmer temperatures & limited opportunity for snowmaking we’ve seen recently has made it hard to remember the awesome pow days of mid-June & the string of stunning bluebirds in late July. Given current conditions, it has quickly approached the time of the season when we need to wrap up operations in certain resort areas,” the announcement said.

The closure comes during what The Guardian has deemed a “long-term decline in average and peak snow depths in the Australian alps.”
