3 Ways to Ski and Board Colorado Without Renting a Car
Cut back on emissions and stress with these transport options
The I70 corridor is home to some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the United States; it is also home to some of the worst traffic. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, public transport options make the commute to your favorite resort less troublesome and a bit better for the planet. According to skiflightfree.org, the commute to the ski resort is the most significant contributor to the carbon footprint of your ski trip.
Here are three ways to shred without the hassle of bringing your own car:
Bus to Colorado Ski Resorts
Bustang offers affordable bus trips from Denver’s Union Station to many of your favorite resorts. Head to Vail and Avon (Beaver Creek) on the Pegasus shuttle and Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain, Loveland Ski Area, Steamboat Springs, or Breckenridge on their Snowstang bus.
If you’re coming from the airport, you can take the light rail from DEN to Union Station for an additional fee.
Train to Winter Park
During peak ski season, you can head to Winter Park via the Winter Park Express train. With service offered on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, this service is a no-brainer for skiers and boarders who want to forgo car travel to the slopes.
Carpool
Either coordinate with your friends or skiing Facebook group buddies or use TreadShare. This new app helps pair people with others heading up the mountain to decrease personal travel costs, traffic, and pollution.
Public transport to the mountain gives you more time to play and less time worrying about driving in the snow, traffic, and parking; plus it helps you be a better environmental steward, and you might make some new ski buddies along the way.
