Salomon recently introduced the Index.02 running shoe (womens | mens), an upgraded version of their 100% recyclable road running shoe. They assert that the Index.02 is is 10% lighter than the Index.01 and comes with comfort and performance upgrades due to improvements in the midsole geometry, foam quality and upper construction. The upper portion of the shoe also received an upgrade to feature more color, softer materials and’ Engineered Mesh,’ a technology meant to offer more support, breathability, and flexibility.

When compared to a traditional running shoe, the Index.02 decreases negative environmental impact “The impact of the shoe is lessened by 44 percent, which validates our work and encourages us to develop more footwear products following this circular economy concept!,” said Olivier Mouzin, Manager of Salomon’s Footwear Sustainability Program

The release of Index.02 is part of a greater push for sustainability at Salomon. “These efforts will include building on our Science Based Target and new climate strategy,” says Marie-Laure Piednoir, who leads Salomon’s Global Sustainability program. Salomon’s Science Based Targets of 50% absolute reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions and 30% absolute reduction of Scope 3 emissions by 2030 were approved by SBTi in August 2022.

After use, Index.02 shoes can be sent back for recycling, the materials will be used in the construction of Salomon alpine ski boots.
